Don’t say your phone number out loud if someone asks you for it (especially in public places, i.e. on the bus/train) – Bluetooth it them instead. It is more secure

Always be careful who you give your number out to so strangers don't get hold of it and don't put personal or contact details on any online profiles you have.

Some phones have a setting where you can record the phone call - put this on as soon as the call might be suspicious.

On some phones there is the option to block numbers, if you can't find it you can ring up your network and they can do it too.

If I started getting text messages this time round, I would inform the police straight away and go to my network provider. Without a shadow of a doubt cos I really don't want to go through the same thing again.
